5 easy steps to ease adult acne

Today, I'd like to discuss a common issue that affects many of us but can be difficult to talk about: adult acne. I understand how frustrating and even embarrassing it can be but rest assured, there's hope. I've compiled some fantastic holistic approaches to help you achieve clearer, healthier skin naturally. Let's dive in!

Adult Acne: Not Just a Teenage Problem

Acne in our early 40s? It sounds so unfair, doesn't it? But here's the thing: hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can cause a surge in androgens, leading to increased oil production, clogged pores, and yes, breakouts. Stress, diet, and environmental factors can also contribute to this pesky problem.

1. Nurture Your Skin with a Simple Skincare Routine

First things first, let's avoid overwhelming our skin with too many products. Instead, opt for a simple and consistent regimen that includes cleansing, hydrating and nourishing the skin, and sun protection. Look for gentle, sulfate-free cleansers

Oil cleansers are my personal favourite. Smooth Oil to Milk Cleanser is designed for breakout-prone skin. It contains ingredients like organic lavender and palmarosa that together fight inflammation, clean congested skin and balance oil production. Choose a non-comedogenic product to prevent pore blockages. Don't forget to remove makeup before hitting the sheets, as sleeping with makeup can lead to breakouts.

2. Balanced Diet for Clearer Skin

You are what you eat, right? A healthy, balanced diet plays a significant role in maintaining clear skin. Consider incorporating more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins into your meals. Avoid excessive sugar, refined carbs, and greasy, fried foods, as they can trigger inflammation and exacerbate acne. Also, make sure to stay hydrated – water is your skin's best friend!

3. Manage Stress

Between juggling work, family, and everything else life throws at us, stress can creep in and wreak havoc on our skin. Practice stress-reduction techniques like yoga, meditation, deep breathing, or even taking short breaks throughout the day to relax. When we're stressed, our bodies produce more cortisol, which can lead to increased oil production and, you guessed it, more breakouts.

4. Get Moving with Regular Exercise

Exercise not only boosts your mood and overall well-being but also helps your skin. When you work out, you increase blood flow, which helps carry away waste products from your skin cells and brings essential nutrients to the surface. Just remember to cleanse your face post-workout to remove sweat and bacteria, which could otherwise contribute to acne.

5. Beauty Sleep – It's Not a Myth

Sleeping is genuinely vital for your skin's health. When you sleep, your body goes into repair mode, including your skin. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night, and you'll wake up with more radiant skin. Consider using a silk pillowcase to minimize friction on your face while sleeping, reducing the likelihood of irritation and breakouts.

Home Remedies for Happy Skin

While we're on the topic of holistic approaches, let's talk about some fantastic home remedies that can complement your skincare routine:

Honey and Cinnamon Mask:

Mix 1-2 teaspoons of honey and cinnamon into a paste and apply it as a mask on the cleansed face and neck. Leave for 10 minutes and rinse thoroughly.

Both ingredients have antimicrobial properties, and honey is known for its soothing effects on the skin.

Beauty Essence Ice Cubes:

Pour your Rehydrate & Balance Beauty Essence into an ice cube tray, and freeze it. Rub a cube on your face in the morning to reduce inflammation and redness.

Remember, everyone's skin is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another. So, be patient with yourself and give these holistic approaches some time to show results. If you're unsure about any product or remedy, it's always a good idea to consult a dermatologist.
