Skincare Routine for Combatting Dry Winter Skin

As we embrace the cosy, wintry vibes, our skin often faces a harsh reality check. The cold weather can be unforgiving, leaving us with dry, lacklustre skin. Winter weather dries our skin for various reasons such as temperature changes between outside and inside air, harsh winds and overall less humidity. I'll share my favourite skincare routine for winter skin.

Winter Skin Essentials

Gentle Cleanser

To kick off your winter skincare routine, it's essential to choose a gentle, hydrating cleanser. Look for one that doesn't strip away your skin's natural oils but effectively removes impurities. Jenny Nordic Skincare's Smooth Oil to Milk Cleanser is a fantastic choice, with its nourishing ingredients like organic camellia oil and Nordic oat lipid.

This minimal, high-performance cleanser will leave your skin clean and hydrated, and helps strengthen the skin barrier at the same time to face the winter cold.

Hydrating Essence

Rebalance & Hydrate Beauty Essence is a must during winter. It contains Fermented oat extract that

  • Rebalances and improves the diversity of skin-beneficial bacteria on the skin microbiome
  • Restores the concentration of bacteria commonly lost through natural ageing
  • Increases the thickness of the stratum corneum and epidermis
  • Firms and plumps up the skin

The essence also has a high percentage of niacinamide which may enhance the function of your skin’s lipid barrier and help lock moisture in and keep pollutants or other potential irritants out, making your skin more hydrated and less sensitive.

Facial Oil

For that extra boost of hydration, consider incorporating facial oils into your routine. Organic oils like squalane or rosehip oil can work wonders for dry skin. You can use them after your moisturizer or mix a few drops into your cream for added nourishment.

My favourite is Glow & Revitalize Oil Serum that helps lock in hydration, create a protective barrier on the skin and leaves the skin feeling super soft, nourished and radiant.

Sunscreen

Yes, even in winter, sunscreen is non-negotiable. UV rays can still harm your skin, and the reflection off snow can be particularly harsh. Opt for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Apply it in the morning, especially if you plan to spend time outdoors.

Lip Scrub

Your lips need love too! Dry, chapped lips are a common winter woe. Try my favourite DIY lip scrub for extra smooth and nourished lips.

Face Massage and Gua Sha

To take your winter skincare routine to the next level, consider incorporating face massage and gua sha techniques. These practices stimulate blood flow, promote lymphatic drainage, and help your products penetrate deeper into your skin. It's a holistic approach to beautiful skin, and it feels incredibly relaxing.

Humidifier

In addition to skincare products, don't forget to invest in a humidifier for your home. The dry indoor air during winter can further dehydrate your skin. A humidifier adds moisture to the air, creating a more comfortable environment for your skin to thrive.

Diet and Hydration

Remember, what you put into your body matters as much as what you put on your skin. A holistic approach to beautiful skin includes a balanced diet and staying hydrated. Consume foods rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids. Drink plenty of water and herbal teas to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.

Avoid long hot showers and baths

The hotter the water it is you use while washing your face, the more oil and moisture is removed from your skin. The longer you're in the shower, the more that this process is prolonged. Hot water can cause damage to the keratin cells that are located on the most outer layer of our skin — the epidermis - and dry the skin.

Stay warm, stay fabulous, and let your beautiful skin shine this winter!
