From Burnout to Balance: Healing the Mind, Body & Skin Connection with Julie from Milliside Therapy
Share
On this week’s episode of The Skin Reset Podcast, I had the pleasure of sitting down with the incredible Julie from Milliside Therapy and Coaching. Julie’s story is one of radical transformation—from a high-flying corporate project manager to a deeply intuitive hypnotherapist helping women heal from within.
We covered so much in our conversation, from subconscious healing and emotional health to how trauma and stress can literally shape your skin and body. If you’ve ever felt stuck, burnt out, or like your skin and body are trying to tell you something—you’ll want to read this.
Burnout Was the Catalyst
Julie’s story begins, like so many of ours, with burnout. After years of pushing in the corporate world and being the main breadwinner, the pandemic gave her an unexpected push. She found herself out of work—and instead of spiralling, she saw an opportunity.
"I was a bit cross with the universe at first," she says, "but only for about ten minutes." Julie used this moment to pivot, training in NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), hypnotherapy, and emotional wellness therapies. What followed was a personal transformation—and the creation of a business that helps other women do the same.
Why Emotional Health Shows Up on Your Skin
One of the most powerful parts of our chat was how clearly Julie explains the connection between the subconscious mind, the body, and the skin.
"When clients come to me with anxiety or stress, they often also mention digestive issues, migraines, even skin flare-ups," she shared. “It’s all connected. The body stores emotions, especially when we haven’t processed them. Over time, this internal buildup starts to show up physically.”
This really resonated with me, especially because in traditional Chinese medicine, we also see the skin as a mirror of internal balance. Whether through Gua Sha, face massage, or tuning into emotional wellness, supporting your inner world is key to glowing skin.
Are You Ignoring the Signs?
We also spoke about how many women push through symptoms until they reach a breaking point. It’s become almost normalised—being “busy”, always tired, surviving on caffeine and cortisol.
Julie says, “A lot of women wear their burnout as a badge of honour, listing their ailments like it's something to be proud of. But it’s not weakness to rest. Your body is always whispering before it starts to scream.”
That hit home. If you’ve ever ignored niggling signs from your body (hello, constant fatigue or random skin breakouts), it might be time to pause and listen.
Subconscious Healing & Hormonal Balance
Julie’s approach focuses on getting to the root. Using techniques like Rapid Transformational Therapy, she helps women reprogram beliefs formed in early childhood—often the real cause behind emotional stress, hormonal imbalance, and even physical symptoms like skin issues or chronic pain.
“Our minds are powerful. If you keep telling yourself every day that you’re exhausted or unwell, your body will follow. But if you shift that internal dialogue—even just a little—it can change everything,” she says.
She’s helped women heal from conditions like psoriasis, recover energy post-burnout, and even reconnect with their menstrual cycles or get pregnant. That’s the power of working with the mind and body together.
Tools You Can Try Today
Julie generously shared one of her favourite daily practices—coherent breathing.
Try This: Coherent Breathing
Breathe in through your nose for six counts.
Breathe out through your nose for six counts.
Repeat for a few minutes daily, or whenever you're feeling anxious.
This simple breathing technique is proven to calm the nervous system, reduce stress hormones, and can even increase life expectancy when practiced regularly. Plus, it’s free and you can do it anywhere.

Final Thoughts
This episode was a powerful reminder that true beauty—and true healing—starts within. If you’re experiencing skin concerns, low mood, exhaustion, or just feel a little “off,” don’t ignore those signs. They are your body’s way of asking for care, rest, and healing.
And remember, you don’t have to do it all alone. Whether through skincare, breathwork, therapy, or simply creating more space in your day—there are gentle, supportive ways to come back to yourself.
With love,
